If you're taking a trip to Johor Bahru and would like to spend the night, consider booking a night's stay at Amari Hotel Johor Bahru. This hotel is conveniently located across the causeway and right opposite Komtar JBCC.
After crossing the road, head to the 8th floor and you'll be greeted in an open and beautiful lobby area where the staff will serve you a welcome drink as you queue to wait for you turn to check-in. You'll immediately feel like you're treated as royalty once you're there!
Check-in is relatively fast, and you'll be given two keycards for you to access the floor and your room.
The room is spacious and clean. It is also a relatively new hotel so everything's looking spankingly new!
The hotel also provides you with basic amenities like bath gel, shower gel, body lotion, toothbrushes, etc. The entire bathroom is overlaid with marble tiles and is brightly lit so that you wouldn't feel like you're in an enclosed area while having a hot shower. There's also a rain shower! :)
The facilities in Amari are amazing as well! There's a huge gym that overlooks the pool.
Comfy seats beside the pool where parents can wait and watch their children as they play and swim in the pool.
Even though there's no infinity pool, and the background looks quite ugly with the construction. It is spacious and definitely sufficient if you would like to swim a lap or two.
On the right side are the pool access rooms (you can stay in one of those if you pay a little bit more!)
We paid about 95 SGD in total including all taxes (do note that this is a weekday rate). It is a great alternative to staycations in Singapore. We have worked out the costs between the two and realised that it makes much more sense to stay over in Malaysia if you are really aching for a mini getaway.
Staycation in Singapore:
Hotel G Singapore - About 114 sgd (and 134 sgd after taxes)
This is one of the cheaper hotels that is not that shady and it is based on one of the cheapest rate I've stayed in.
Dinner, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner - About 120 sgd for two
Usually for Staycations, you'll probably feast and spend a little more on meals than usual and this is just a rough estimation
Total cost = 254 sgd
Staycation in Johor Bahru, Malaysia:
Amari Hotel Johor Bahru - 80 sgd (and about 95 sgd after taxes)
Dinner, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner - About 80 sgd for two (Read also our guide on what to eat!)
Transportation (Train to JB) - 10+4 for two persons, to-and-fro
Total cost = 189 sgd
If this 65 sgd savings is not significant enough for you, do remember that you'll also probably be eating much better food in JB because things are much more affordable across the causeway! So what are you waiting for? Time for a mini getaway? Perhaps a staycation over Valentines' Day?
