Where to Stay along the French Riviera?
Nice, France
Nice stands out as one of the trendiest destinations along the French Riviera, merging vibrant city life with golden beaches. Visitors flock to the iconic Promenade des Anglais, where locals and tourists enjoy scenic strolls and outdoor cafes. If you are short on time during your trip to the French Riviera, I'd highly recommend having your base in the city of Nice where there are lots of day tours you can join to explore nearby towns like Eze, Monaco, Provence and Cannes. Otherwise, because it's located in the middle of these towns, trains are a great option for self-exploration!
Accommodation in Nice caters to all budgets. The Le Negresco, a lavish five-star historic hotel, features opulent decor and stunning ocean views, with room rates averaging around €400 per night during peak season. For those looking for more affordable option but still want a comfortable stay, Le Meridien Nice, a resort hotel located on the waterfront, is a good option. During our trip to Nice, we opt to stay in the centre at the Hotel Mercure Nice Notre Dame, so that we could easily access the trains. The rooms were beautifully designed and we had a comfortable rest during our time in Nice.
For budget travellers, charming guesthouses options abound, especially in neighbourhoods like the picturesque Nice Old Town, where you can find rooms starting at about €70 per night.
Monaco
Monaco is a glamorous and compact city-state that perfectly captures the essence of the French Riviera’s elegance. Staying in Monaco offers unparalleled access to world-class attractions, including the iconic Monte Carlo Casino, the opulent Prince’s Palace, and the picturesque Port Hercule. Its central location along the Côte d’Azur makes it an ideal base for exploring nearby destinations like Nice, Èze, and Menton. Staying overnight grants you the opportunity to discover the city before and after the flock of tourists come and go, and experience the city's vibrant nightlife and the romantic glow of its illuminated streets after dark.
Monaco also boasts some of the most prestigious accommodations in the world. For a luxurious stay, Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo is unmatched, offering impeccable service, stunning Mediterranean views, and proximity to the Monte Carlo Casino. Another top choice is the Hotel Hermitage Monte-Carlo, known for its Belle Époque architecture and serene atmosphere. For travellers seeking a more modern touch, Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort provides stylish rooms, a spa, and a beautiful lagoon-like pool. And for F1 fans, stay at the Fairmont Monte-Carlo for a view of the 6th corner hairpin!
I'd wouldn't recommend any budget or affordable options in Monaco because that isn't the purpose of staying here. Those options are plentiful in other French cities along the Riviera!
Cannes, France
Cannes isn't just about the glitz of the film festival. Its sandy beaches and lively atmosphere attract visitors year-round. Many upscale hotels, like the InterContinental Carlton, offer stunning sea views and luxurious amenities, with typical nightly rates around €500.
For a unique experience, seek out boutique hotels, such as the Le Cavendish, which combines proximity to both the beach and the city center. This hotel offers a cozy ambiance with rooms starting at around €150.
Saint-Tropez, France
Similar to Monaco, Saint-Tropez is the epitome of coastal luxury, often associated with celebrities and high-end lifestyles. This charming town offers a range of accommodations, from swanky beachfront villas to stylish apartments. For example, Villa Marie features lush gardens and a serene pool and typically charges around €600 per night.
To embrace a more quirky atmosphere, look for boutique hotels such as the Hotel La Ponche, blending charm with stunning views. Book early, especially during the summer, as options fill quickly.
Antibes / Juan-les-Pins, France
