Thinking of a staycation? Consider heading over the causeway to enjoy premium hotel facilities and service at a fraction of the price!
During our visit to Johor Bahru sometime last week, we decided to stay over at the newly opened Capri by Fraser Johor Bahru. The hotel has only went through its soft-opening and is preparing for its full opening sometime in June.
How to get to Capri by Fraser Johor Bahru in Malaysia?
Capri by Fraser Johor Bahru is situated close to CIQ. It is a short 3-minute walk but there are still no clear and proper walkway to get there yet so you'll have to jay-walk and it can be quite dangerous if you are intending to bring along your little children along. Alternatively, you could purchase a 4G Sim Card so that you can travel with data and Grab over to the accommodation. Since the hotel is relatively new, take note that you won't be able to "search" it on Grab. You could then enter Tritower Apartments instead. The apartment is located right next to the hotel and you can direct the driver to the right entrance.
When you are there, you won't have to worry about walking back to City Square Mall as the hotel provides a shuttle that brings you to the nearby malls (City Square, R&F, Midvalley).

Our experience at Capri by Fraser Johor Bahru
We made reservations for the hotel right before we head over to Malaysia. We took the weird walking path past the taxi stands and towards the tall Capri building. You should be able to see the building from CIQ itself!
Once we were there, we were warmly greeted by the staff. We presented our passports and were offered a bottle of mineral water. That was extremely welcomed after the hot walk over! Since we arrived before the check-in time, we had to wait a little while as they got the rooms ready. We then enjoyed the plush sofas at the lobby and enjoyed the free wifi, planning where we should head to next!
The staff then came over to bring us over once the room was ready. We completed the payment process promptly and then he ushered us into the lifts with our keycards.
Even though Capri was located close to the causeway, with lots of heavy vehicles and cars on the roads, we didn't hear much of the noise outside (which was extremely important for a good night's rest!).
The room was spacious and clean and had all the necessities you'll need for your stay. Perhaps it was still within their soft-opening period, there weren't that many furnishings yet so the shelves looked slightly bare and not the cosiest. Also, we did not have any Room Service Menu although the staff did tell us that we could order Room Service. Since we did not need it in the end, it wasn't so much of a big deal!
Oh, should you want to prepare some food, there is a microwave oven and a food preparation corner in the room. There are also some plates and utensils should you need them. We were also given two complimentary bottled water in our rooms!
After washing up, we decided to head out for some food and shopping before returning back to the hotel. We did not utilise the shuttle bus as it was half-an-hour earlier than the next bus. Instead, we took a Grab out.
We only went back to explore the hotel in the evening and we were extremely pleased with the brand-new gym. They had advanced equipment that could track how many sets you've done digitally. We took the opportunity to stretch and work out a sweat before exploring the other portions of the hotel.
Another great facility is the Spin & Play Room. It is a laundry room but while waiting, you could enjoy the PS4 games! Or even if you aren't waiting for your laundry, feel free to use your room card to tap in!
Lastly, we visited the pool. It was pretty and had a rooftop-like setting. There are some lounge chairs which you could sun-tan should you not want to get into the water. However, since Capri by Fraser is located near the causeway, it is rather noisy. For those who are extremely sensitive to noise may find it a little annoying. Otherwise, you're getting great prices for all these great facilities!
We paid $62 for a night stay in a Sea View Room at Capri by Fraser Johor Bahru through Booking. The rate does not include breakfast and is just for the room. The prices now have increased slightly, but should you book them early or if you go during off-peak, you should be able to enjoy great prices like we did!
